Northwood Primary School promotes tolerance and respect for all cultures, faiths and lifestyles through our values, motto and golden rules. These elements run through all we do. We have school council representatives from each year group from Year 1 to Year 6.
They have responsibilities around the school and support adults in making decisions about school life. We have a duty to prepare our children for life in modern Britain and to keep them safe. The current Ofsted guidance is:
“Ensure that they and the school promote tolerance and respect for people of all faiths (or those of no faith), cultures and lifestyles; and support and help through their words, actions and influence within the school and more widely in the community, to prepare children and young people positively for life in modern Britain.”
We value the diverse ethnic backgrounds of all pupils and families and undertake a variety of events and lessons to celebrate these. We have found this approach to be enriching for all parties as it teaches tolerance and respect for the differences in our community and the wider world.
Underpinning all this is a range of curriculum topics which are studied in both Key Stages and which have strong links to important events and people in British History.

Remembrance Day
Each year we celebrate Remembrance Day commemorations where 2 minutes silence is always respected.
Raising money
We raise money for a variety of different charities; including Cancer Research, MNDA, Children in Need, Roald Dahl Foundation and our local Food Bank. Each Christmas every class fills a hamper with donated food and gifts which is given via a local charity to families in need.
Keeping safe
Children are taught about keeping safe, both physically and in the broader sense of issues like ESafety.
We have regular training for staff, parents and children about these issues. All children can name a member of staff in school they would talk to with a worry and pupils do feel safe at school. Pupils understand the importance of rules both in school and in the wider society and our whole behaviour policy is a positive approach based on our Golden Rules.
