Happy New Year

A Happy New Year to all our families in Willow Tree and Cherry Tree!

I hope you had a great Christmas during the break. I will always remember the Christmas play this year – ‘The Magical Christmas Jigsaw’. Your children were absolutely terrific in the play with many of them having two parts. Those that didn’t, had a lot of words to learn and they truly did an amazing job! Do perhaps leave a comment on the website about how you enjoyed the play.

Our new topic this term is Then and Now, a history based topic when we study things and people in the not-too-distant past. This will include a school visit to Carisbrooke Castle in February [letter on its way], having a Victorian School Day, a Victorian Wash Day, and people such as Her Majesty, Queen Victoria, Florence Nightingale and as many well-known people as we can  fit in from that era and some from not too long ago such as Neil Armstrong.

We have begun by initially looking at our own family trees and by studying some old artefacts and toys. We are also studying animal life-cycles.

If you have anything of interest that you wish to share with us, do let me know. Meanwhile, thank you for your support in class in the mornings and your support of your child’s Spelling Bees and Reading at home. Routines for homework established at this age will help in years to come.

Finally a huge well done to our school’s PTA and their fund raising efforts that have enabled us to buy many new titles for our banded books. These are for daily reading at home and guided reading at school. Do look out for these new titles in the baskets around the library when your child chooses their book. The books in the photograph are from the X Project series, hot off the press!

More to come soon…
