Autumn term

This term Aspen and Lime are basing our work around the wild and whacky world of Roald Dahl. We will be reading a range of books including “Georges Marvellous Medicine”, “The Witches” and “James and the Giant Peach” and basing our work around this. Marvellous mixtures will be made and chemistry involving mixtures, solutions and crystal making will take place. History will involve the origins and ancient belief about witchcraft, as well as researching more recent events such as the “Witchfinder General and the Salem Witch hunts.  “James and the Giant Peach” will form a basis for our Geography about ocean currents and weather systems as well as migration to the new world. Character studies of the main characters and comparisons between the villians in Roald Dahl’s books and between the story lines of books and films will be made and a sequel to “The Witches” will be written.

We will be using a range of visual learning techniques to record and compare information throughout the topic. Our art will involve studying the work of Quentin Blake and Japanese Manga cartoons. In PE we will have a cycle of winter games including Tag rugby, football and Quicksticks hockey. Indoor PE will be circuit and fitness training, multiskills and sportshall athletics. We will be entering teams for the Cowes cluster Tag rugby and Sportshall athletics competitions this term. Our use of ICT and computers will be ongoing, with the expectation that they will be used as appropriate, with independent use of programs such as Powerpoint, Publisher and Word.
