 LEARNING AT HOME

We want to promote the many different learning opportunities that happen out of school with the support of a patient adult.

Homework suggests lonely hours banished to the kitchen whilst the rest of the family watch TV, or that horrid sinking feeling on Monday when spellings have been left unlearned, and the spelling test looms. It needn't be like that! Please avoid the unpleasant connotations that homework sometimes has and make learning something that you can enjoy doing together.

Regular reading is vital, and there is a continued expectation that every child will be read to, or read, for at least 10 minutes every day.

In addition there is a weekly Maths, Literacy or project-based activity. The length and nature of the activity will depend on the age or stage of your child, however a rough guide to the amount of time spent per week is:

Key Stage 1 (reading, spelling bees, other literacy, numeracy or project based work) - 1 hour

Key Stage 2 (literacy and numeracy as above with occasional research work) - 1.5 hours

You will be reminded of your child's tasks through your child's class teacher. We welcome  your comments on your child's home learning through the home/school comment notebook.
