Our new topic is The Sea and we will be looking at everything we possibly can to do with the sea.

We have enjoyed a ‘Titanic Day’, dressing up for a first or third class ‘voyage’ in class. We retold and acted what really happened 100 years ago and today we were lucky to have a real-life Titanic actor from the Island’s Savoyards, John Kerr, who came dressed as Mr Murdoch, the first officer on the bridge when the fatal ice-berg was hit. The children came up with lots of questions for him to answer. Thank you John. Do come in and see our 3D Titanic display of the boat going down!

We have learnt about Grace Darling, the light-house keeper’s daughter who saved many lives but who died at a young age. We’re also studying life on a seashore, making sea sculptures and singing lots of sea songs as you can imagine!  If you have any good sea related songs, do let us know.  Among our repertoire, we have, Sun on the water, When I was one, 1 2 3 4 5 once I caught a shark alive, Down by the Bay,  Octopus’s Garden,  A Sailor went to sea, sea, sea, Wade in the water, Yellow Submarine…to name a few.

We are really amazing ourselves with our maths problems which we tackle each day, missing numbers, missing signs, finding the right coins and two-part problems. And in our writing we have been learning about Special words in our writing like verbs, adjectives, nouns, connectives and adverbs. Now we are working descriptive phrases. Thank you for keeping up your regular reading at home and Spelling Bees. It really makes a difference to our learning if we can practice at home.

Friday 27th April – MALACKEYWACKY CAKE STALL – at school at 3pm.
Order forms will be going out this Friday 20th April. Orders must be handed to the office or to Lisa by Wednesday afternoon.
A variety of Lisa’s lovely cupcakes will be 80p each. All profits will be kindly donated back into school funds.

Friday4th May – LADIES NIGHT – 7 – 9.30pm at Northwood Primary School.
Tickets are £3.00 each which will include complimentary wine/soft drink & cheese and biscuits.
Treatments from £5.00 and include – Indian head massage; eyebrow shaping; back massage & make overs.
Stall holders – Malackeywacky Cakes; Jewellery Workshops; Beautiful Wight Cards; Exclusively by Christine Bags; Henny Penny; Jewellery & Scarves; Pampered Chef; Becki Boo Home ware; Lucy Hernandez crafts & Sweet Trees.

Friday 11th May – RACE NIGHT – 7 – 7.30pm Start – at Cowes Football Club.
Tickets will be £5.00 per head for adults and £1.00 for children. Price includes Curry and Rice and Hot dogs.
Raffle and horses will be available. Come along & join in the fun.

Wednesday 23rd May -PHIL THE BAG COLLECTION
Bags will be handed out to each child for you to collect any of the following unwanted clothes; bags; belts; bedding; curtain; shoes.
From this collection we can make £500 per tonne, this is an easy and stress free way for us to make some money so please have a good sort out.

Saturday 25th May – SUMMER FAYRE – 12 – 2.30pm at Northwood Primary School.

• Some children are arriving at school as early as 8.15am.  Please remember that there is no supervision for these early arrivals and that they should be in Breakfast Club.
• PARKING – We have had advice from Highways that if you are caught on the zig zag lines then you can be given an on the spot fine and lose 3 points off your licence. Please consider this when you are parking outside school. We will continue to publish number plates of people who are parking without thought for the safety of the children. A member of the school community has reported a car with number plate P2 KNH for parking right on the corner of Oxford St on the double yellow lines. If you are a disabled driver please remember that you can use the staff car park for dropping off and picking up.
• Well done to the girl’s netball team who made it to the Island Final this week. They played magnificently and finished in 4^th place overall. They were a credit to the school and displayed real sportsmanship at all times.
• The Friends of Northwood are planning on having a nearly new stall at the Ladies Night.  Please could you have a sort out over the Easter Holiday and donate any unwanted clothes that are in a good condition.  Ladies items only please.
• COMMUNITY BUILD – It is next week! Please send your children in old play clothes for the first 4 days of the week as they may get messy. (Some groups will be using acrylic paint).  We would like them in school uniform on Friday. If you have any free time at all to help please let Mrs Strand or the office know.
• We had a fabulous trip toLondonlast Friday .Both year groups thoroughly enjoyed their different experiences and were great ambassadors for the school.
• The PTA will be running an Easter Competition next week which involves you guessing the value of the prize. Look out in the library next week!
• Could we please ask for donations of cakes (from any class) for next Friday 30^th March.
• If your child is in KS2 and interested in taking drum lessons, please speak to Mrs Green.
