Times tables and division facts are easy this week Please revise the 3′s. Don’t forget to get the little blue books signed to show that the children have been learning . Aim for 5 seconds per question, especially with division facts too.

To help you do this homework it might be a good idea to gather together some examples of adverts from magazines and newspapers.

Look at the adverts in the press. Think about how they try and make you buy the thing they are selling?  Look out for slogans and phrases that they use. How is the advert set out? How big is the writing on the advert? Where is it? Does the advert use a picture to get your attention?

For homework I would like you to design a magazine advert for one of the following:

a new car, anew shop, a theme park, a toy, a music player, a fizzy drink or an event.

You may work on A4 paper or on a computer.

Through art, drama, music and dance, we are now enjoying learning about Henry VIII and his six unfortunate wives.

Over the next few weeks we will be exploring all aspects of life in tudor times, culminating in a trip to Hampton Court for the Year 3.

In Literacy we have been focusing on writing letters. The Year 4 children are looking forward to meeting their new penpals in March.

Please think of 5 questions to ask about this text. Write them on a piece of paper so that I can give them to someone else in the class to answer. At least 3 of the questions should be “Why do you think…..” or “How do you know……”  or ” What would you have…..” style of question, that get your reader to really think about what they have read.

As a homework project, some of us made shields, pole axes, swords and maces- they look really vicious and Mrs Murphy was very impressed!

Enjoying a story together

Themes:

Our theme this half term has been “The Media” and the children have been researching the day they were born to find news items related to the year or date of their birth. They have also enjoyed using digital video cameras to film a news report. They are currently learning to use editing software and add sound into their reports. We are hoping to post some of these when they are eventually ready! Now we are planning and researching a documentary style programme about their choice of subject, including Charles Dickens, the “Titanic”, local history  and history of Victorian schools. After half term our theme will be change and growth.

Good News!?!:

We are planning to post Maths and English homework on the webpage. Don’t forget; signed Reading Records and Spelling books are due in on Monday, English on Tuesday and Maths and signed Times Tables books on Thursday, please. Don’t forget to play “Mathletics”.

Highlights:

We really enjoyed making kites on our “Chinese New Year” day and Year 5 and 6 were brilliant helping their “Chatting Chums” from Apple and Cherry class to make and fly their kites.
