Welcome to Cherry Tree
Cherry Tree is a bright, bustling Year 1 classroom filled with learning, fun, chat and laughter. Every child has the opportunity to learn through play in our areas of continuous provision as well as taking part in focused activities encouraging the children to become independent with their learning.
Our day in Cherry Tree
Our time is spent being scientists, historians, designers, explorers, writers, architects, achievers, mathematicians, journalists, musicians, artists, actors, authors, geographers and a team! We continue to build our social and emotional development, setting new challenges, developing friendships new and old, as well as learning from our mistakes and lots of singing.
Our mornings always begin with a song and a story before our phonic session begins. The children are taught how to spell, read and write Phases 2-5 of the Letters and Sounds programme and we play lots of games to help us ‘make and break’ words aiding our phonic knowledge. Letter formation and a cursive handwriting style is taught daily using a variety of songs, glitter, sand and shaving foam, not forgetting the pencil!
We follow a Mastery Maths Programme which embeds mathematical skills whilst building self-esteem and confidence with the number system. A variety of practical, hands on activities set up both inside and outside the classroom develop and extend the early foundations of mathematics.
Afternoons in Cherry are filled with topic work, PE, Circle Time, outdoor play, GOLDEN Time and art. We enjoy sharing and celebrating achievements in our learning and make sure that every day we have time to say something kind to each other.
