Spring Term years 5 and 6

Welcome to the Spring Term for Year 5 and 6. This term will lead to the Year 5 Residential visit to East Dene before Easter and the Year 6 SATs in May.

Maths will include our on-going studies of basic skills, problem solving and the use of the Excel computer programme.

Out Topic work this term will based on the theme of Space and will have the working title of Mars and Beyond. This will include a visit to the Planetarium at Fort Victoria, Yarmouth. Amongst the activities will be a DT building of bottle rockets. In Science we are studying eco-systems, gravity, friction and thermal insulation. This topic will also include Literacy writing of science fiction, suspense writing, play scripts and diary writing.

Humanities will include maps of exploration, the Space Race and the importance of longitude and latitude. In PSHE we will consider the rules of society, consequences as well as team building.  RE will involve studying creation stories.

Art will involve looking at the style of Salvador Dali, Mars landscapes and mini-beasts as Aliens.

In PE activities will include cross-country running culminating in a competitive opportunity for everyone. Weather permitting we will continue with netball, hockey and tag rugby.

Our sports teams will continue with their participation in cross-country, rugby, football, volleyball and sports hall athletic competitions.

Our use of ICT will continue, with full use of our class set of Net Books. We will also be programming Probots.
